JON CABRERA

INVESTIGATOR

Jon Cabrera of Tri-Det Solutions Group serves as a contract investigator and consultant for KC Law Group, A Professional Law Corporation. He began his law enforcement career in 1993 with the Palm Springs Police Department as a Community Service Officer, then joined the Orange County Sheriff's Department, where he completed the basic academy and worked at the Men's Central Jail. In 1996, he lateraled to the City of Riverside, where he served as a patrol officer and went on to hold a wide range of assignments throughout his career, including patrol, canine handler, detective with a violent crime and gang task force, use-of-force instructor, less-lethal munitions instructor, and presenter for the department's Community Police Academy. He was also appointed to the SWAT team, serving in multiple roles over 16 years, including four years as Team Leader.

In 2009, Jon was promoted to sergeant, a position he held for more than 14 years. During that time, he supervised patrol, the Property Crimes Unit, the use-of-force unit, the canine program, and the department's firearms training range. He also spent several years on the Critical Incident Investigation Team, where he conducted complex administrative and Internal Affairs investigations, including officer-involved shootings, criminal allegations against department personnel, serious misconduct matters, and numerous other complaints originating from the public, within the department, and from third parties.

In 2018, Jon recognized a need to strengthen public-venue readiness in Palm Springs and successfully launched the Designated Marksman Program for SWAT and Palm Springs Police Department officers. The program established a critical operational capability between the patrol rifle and the police sniper role.

Jon is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and the inaugural Strategic Leadership Program through the California Association of Tactical Officers. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Management and has taught law enforcement and tactical concepts nationwide.

Jon approaches investigations with a straightforward philosophy: to serve as an independent finder of fact. He believes investigations must be conducted without bias and guided by the evidence, allowing the facts to lead to an accurate understanding of what occurred.
